Robots quilt finished!

I really love how this quilt has turned out. My son has been watching me finish off the hand quilting every evening and he loves it too. It's his birthday in 3 weeks so it's a gift from me to him. Love you, Kai xo

My first cutsom order

This is my first custom order for 2 project bags. One for larger knitting projects and one for smaller projects. I hope your mum likes them, Melinda :)

Etsy shop reopening

I've finally finished my 5 Birdie Slings and I've listed them in my Etsy shop. Head on over to check it out. I'll be listing new things as I get around to making them. I plan on making some baby accessories and clothing as well as zippy pouches and fabric baskets.

Hand quilting the robot quilt

This is my first attempt at hand quilting and I think it looks pretty cute. This might have to be my favourite block on the quilt :)

Today while it's storming outside

So I'm finally finishing the quilting on my robots quilt. Can't wait to get this one off the WIP list. Then I'm on to sorting out our baby room. Who knew a little person could have so much stuff. I have 6 x 50litre tubs of clothes and things to go through. Aargh. The one good thing about it is that I already have a son, and this new one is a boy too so I don't have to buy much...if anything at all.

1200kms for kids

Every year a bunch of cyclists (professional and wanna-be) get together to ride from Sydney to Brisbane (or the other way) to raise funds for the Sydney and Brisbane Children's Hospital. This will be the 3rd year in a row that my hubby has done it. So far he is the lead fundraiser raising over $15,000 alone (average is $5,000).

It is a charity close to our hearts as our first born son was born 12 weeks early. He had to spend 2 months in hospital eventually coming home at 36wk gestation still on oxygen. He was born 1.4kg but is now a strapping healthy 3 year old.

If you'd like to donate, there is still time. Click the link below.

Zoology and guitars

I made this using Charm Squares baby quilt pattern by Oh Fransson. It was so quick! I made the entire top while my son was napping. In 2 hours I had chosen fabrics, cut the squares and sashing and sewed the whole thing together. It hardly used any fabric at all. I have so much left over of my 12 x 1/2 yard bundle. Many more co-ordinates to come, me thinks.

It's for my baby due in January. You know how I feel about pastels and cutesy patterns for babies!

Measures 40" x 32".

Robots

I thought this fabric was so cute so I bought a 1/2 yard bundle from Figberry on Etsy for a bargain price. Using some other bits of fabric and purchasing the blue sashing, I finished this quilt top. Now I've just got to baste the whole thing before getting it ready for quilting. I'm thinking some straight line quilting along with some hand quilting in some of the blocks...red?

It's my son's 3rd birthday in 4 weeks and I think he'll love it :)

Measures 56" x 56"

iPad sleeve

I needed to make an iPad sleeve because the ones my husband kept bringing home, well, sucked. I just couldn't get the measurements right, but armed with The Cottage Home's tutorial in Delish Magazine, I finally got it right. Thanks Lindsay :)

I wanted to keep it nice and simple so I didn't add any closures. It is lined with a lovely cream coloured fleece. More pics here.

Reversible flip skirt

This is arguably the cutest thing I've ever made. It's probably because I have a son and have another son on the way. No one here to make cute girly baby clothes for. This is for my husband's co-worker's little girl's 1st birthday. What a quick and easy little gift to make. And how cute is she going to look toddling around with this little flip skirt???

The floral fabric is Kaffe Fassett and the pink fabric is from Spotlight.

I had this little bundle waiting for me at work on Wednesday. Boy do I have some plans for this. I just wish I had some more time to sew and plan!!!

Birdie Sling

I'm loving my Birdie Sling bag that I just completed. I was a bit daunted by all the blogging about it. People were saying it wasn't as easy as it is rated. But I found it to be quite a simple construction. So simple, in fact, that I added a zippered internal pocket and a key tag. I'm glad I used 'cheaper' Ikea fabric before making out of the 'good stuff'. I now know what to look out for and what to pay attention to. I'll be making several more of these for christmas gifts!

Random Reflections quilt top

I've finally finished my Random Reflections quilt top. Pattern by Moda Bakeshop. I'm really happy with how it turned out. I think it's going to be the perfect size for our bed. I've booked it in with Quilts on Bastings for long arm quilting.

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

My friend is due to have a baby in December and she asked me to make her a quilt. She chose The Very Hungry Caterpillar fabric with white. I love how it's turned out. It's much softer with the quilt lines 4cm apart. Measures 100cm x 130cm with the strip being 25cm wide. I hope she likes it!

Baby quilt by One Flew Over

When I fell pregnant, I hadn't really dusted off my sewing machine in a VERY long time. So I commissioned my very talented friend, Kate, to make a quilt for my new little guy (due in January). I asked her to choose the fabrics for me because I don't trust my own judgment :) Look at the amazing results! I can't wait to see it in person. I'm especially in love with those little cars. Thank you thank you thank you!

Little Stitches Kimono PJs

How gorgeous did these little PJs turn out? A size 3-6mths for my little guy on the way. The pattern is from Little Stitches by Amy Butler. The fabric is from Spotlight. I can see a few of these being made in the future.

Look at me!

Having started sewing, I was wondering whether it would renew my love of knitting. Sewing is not portable at all and knitting is. I have been making this baby blanket since April but lost my knitting mojo in May. Realising that sewing is by no means portable, I dragged this gorgeous thing out again. I have until January before the baby is born. Not that he'll need it in summer!

Fitted and flat cot sheets

In my endeavour to find bedding for my new baby that ISN'T pastel or cutesy, I decided to make my own fitted sheets for the cot. It's worked out perfectly. I didn't follow any pattern, I just winged it. But I'm going to make another one so might make a tutorial out of that. This one is using Robert Kaufman Pimatex. I'm loving it!

The flat sheet came up a bit short in the white. But that's ok because I'll have to short sheet the cot for some time.
